The University of La Guajira, attends the external evaluation visit for Institutional Accreditation purposes by the National Accreditation Council (CNA), where a commission of academic peers evaluate and make a contrast in the evidence of the documented information, through the Self-Evaluation Report and Improvement Plan, in order to demonstrate the institutional compliance with each of the factors that frame the Accreditation model.
The responsibility is headed by the team of external evaluators formed by Leonor Galindo Cárdenas, Guillermo Sierra Sierra, Carlos Andrés Mesa Jaramillo, Carlos Alberto Uribe Tobón, Ramiro Cifuentes Vélez and Jhonniers Guerrero Erazo, who play the specific roles of peer rapporteur, former rector, international, academic, financial and coordinator, respectively.
“We have been preparing for the development of the visit, not only for these three days, but for everything the university has done in recent years. It shows that we are committed to institutional quality and to demonstrating significant progress in each of our mission activities, which was reflected in the self-evaluation report.”
Carlos Arturo Robles Julio, rector of Uniguajira, pointed out.
He also added that: “at the same time, we have promoted actions with respect to the culture of quality, made progress in complying with the Improvement Plan and in carrying out preparatory exercises, both internally and with external peer friends, which will allow us to approach this visit”.
One of the most important topics, presented during the Self-Assessment Report, was that in 2022 the Internal Quality Assurance System was created, with the objective of streamlining the processes of self-assessment, self-regulation and continuous improvement, which favored the stages related to Accreditation.
Likewise, it is worth mentioning that as a result of the institutional reviews, due to the need to generate answers to the current reality and improve processes to provide quality education, policies oriented to this end were described, among which was the updating of the policy for the promotion of permanence and successful graduation of students.
In this sense, support to the student body was increased to combat desertion through actions such as bus routes, restaurants and different academic and financial support provided through the University Social Welfare Office.
On the other hand, in terms of research, the consolidation of efforts for the recategorization of research groups and the contribution to their strengthening, through strategies and actions from the search for quality, as well as to meet the needs of sustainable development in La Guajira from multiculturalism and the integral progress of all its actors, was demonstrated.
On the other hand, with respect to national and international mobility, an investment of more than $4,539,997,560 pesos was consolidated in incentives and economic stimuli granted by the Universidad de La Guajira in the last five years, with the purpose of stimulating the participation of teachers, students, administrative staff and graduates in high-impact national and international scenarios, in addition to strengthening high-level qualification in recognized universities.
On the other hand, it is crucial to mention the diversification and growth of the academic offerings, the updating of the institutional organizational structure to respond to current demands and the alliances with other institutions for the training of human talent, which together resulted in greater recognition of the institution as a relevant actor in the regional development of the department.
“This meeting will allow us to demonstrate that we comply with our mission statements, which evidences the coherence of what we have stated and what we have been doing. In addition, it represents a recognition of the University of La Guajira at national and international level, which positions it as a reference in terms of higher education and guarantees a preference of students when choosing this institution as the instance to develop their formative processes, as well as the confidence given to society about the service we are providing”.
Yuleimis Mendoza Amaya, vice rector of quality at Uniguajira, said.
This seal determines that the university acts based on the needs of the context and as an additional benefit, it will allow to continue with the strengthening of the processes to recognize the work developed, the 47 years of legal and administrative life, and to stand out in the national scenario in terms of higher education and quality.
The space that will take place from April 25 to 27, covers several moments: the dissertation of each leader, before the academic peers on the institutional factor that corresponds to him, the institutional tour where each of the elements of the physical and technological infrastructure are evidenced, meetings with the estates and the external sector, key to nurture the conception that the evaluators have about the Alma Mater and finally, the verbal report of the development of the visit, given by the academic peers.
