With the approval of the Social Policy Council and the advice of a teacher from the University of La Guajira, the municipality of San Juan del Cesar installed the first listening room at the departmental level, a physical space designed to provide collective guidance and educational intervention in mental health, in addition to addressing various psychosocial problems and psychological disorders that currently affect citizens.
This project was developed with the support of Bertha Cristina Orozco Daza, professor attached to the Social Work program of Uniguajira Sede Fonseca and the Municipal Mayor's Office, through the Collective Interventions Plan (PIC), in accordance with resolution 518 of 2015 that frames the strategy of the Territorial Health Plan (PTS).
The listening room seeks to facilitate communication in a harmonious environment and foster trust so that participants can express their needs, concerns and experiences. According to Bertha Orozco Daza, there is an interdisciplinary team made up of the Child and Adolescent Police, the San Rafael de San Juan del Cesar Hospital, the Family Police Station and other key actors, who have played a key role in addressing these concerns effectively.
Likewise, the municipal health secretary, Sandra Mariela Brochero Mendoza mentioned that the QR code has been arranged as an innovative means and means of accessing the interdisciplinary team virtually to offer their support and care quickly. “This initiative not only facilitates access to resources and support services, but also promotes awareness of the importance of emotional well-being and seeking help when needed,” she explained.
Currently, the center operates in the facilities of the National Institute for Professional Technical Training (INFOTEP), where it provides comprehensive support to 36 families from strata 1, 2 and 3. These people face significant challenges such as depression, suicide attempts, domestic violence and substance abuse such as drugs and alcohol, which are considered to be situations that affect their lives.
It is worth mentioning that the positive results of this project have allowed the initiative to be extended to schools in the municipality of San Juan del Cesar, such as the educational institutions El Carmelo, Normal Superior and María Auxiliadora, which demonstrates the link between the educational sector and highlights the commitment to promote emotional well-being, as well as to facilitate effective communication between students, parents and different members of the academic community.
The University of La Guajira fully supports this initiative and reaffirms its social commitment to the community, through this effort it strengthens the community fabric and promotes the integral development of society through a healthier and more harmonious environment for all.
