More than 30 attendees from the health sector and students from the Nursing and Nutrition and Dietetics programs of the University of La Guajira participated in the workshop “Identification of nutritional status through anthropometric indicators”, developed in partnership with the Government of La Guajira and the National Institute of Health (INS).
The workshop was held from June 24 to 29, 2024, and it is specified that it had a significant impact on the training of health personnel by updating their knowledge and skills to improve the care and verification of nutritional status through anthropometric measurements.
One of the competencies developed was the analytical skills that contribute to the early detection of malnutrition problems and nutritional emergencies, which allowed for a more timely treatment of the crisis situation.
“This training was crucial to identify cases of malnutrition through anthropometry and expand the region's capacity to continue training more professionals.”
said Yaina Panciera Di Zoppola, director of the Nutrition and Dietetics program at Uniguajira.
During the meeting, fundamental tools for anthropometric measurement were used, such as the tape measure, over scale, bioimpedance scale and stadiometer, in order to accurately assess the growth, body composition and health of individuals.
The foundations were also laid to train future professionals in the region, who will be prepared to identify and solve nutritional problems, with the purpose of generating a lasting impact on the community and the region.
