The development of a society is measured, in large part, by its levels of generation of new knowledge, technological progress and capacity for innovation. In this sense, Higher Education Institutions are the right place to foster these potentials: a privileged space to investigate and better understand what we are, in which universe we live, or to what extent our culture and education, our past and present influence our way of thinking and acting, while the globalized world demands constant transformations and innovations of a technological nature.

The University is not the only one, but it should be a key instance that allows its teachers and students to contribute, through research, experimentation, technological development, innovation, innovative entrepreneurship and artistic creation, to the sustainable development of the society in which it is inserted.

Our Mission

Promote and coordinate the processes of production of basic and applied knowledge through institutional programs of scientific and technological research and guide the methodological-research training of the academic community, consolidating culture as a central axis of training and higher education, as well as disseminate the results of research and train groups and research groups through scientific events and continuing education programs.

Our Vision

To be a highly specialized academic unit in the production, transformation and adaptation of knowledge, at the service of the disciplines and professions involved in the academic training programs offered by the University of La Guajira.

With a focus on innovation and quality, we work to inspire our university community to actively participate in research projects that contribute to regional and global development.

  • Establish, in agreement with the different faculties and undergraduate and graduate programs, the lines of institutional research based on the academic and scientific needs of the university and the socio-economic needs of the region and the country.
  • To foster an academic, administrative and financial environment that promotes a positive attitude towards research among the members of the university community.
  • Recommend the inclusion in the study programs of the different academic units of subjects that contribute to the theoretical and technical foundation of scientific research, offered by professors who are experts in such subjects.
  • Strongly support interdisciplinary research, for which the programs are considered as the academic units that generate and promote them.
  • To ensure that the results of all research are appropriated by professors, students and the general community of the university, through the chair, seminars, conferences, etc.
Exploring horizons of knowledge
  • The research: as the fundamental activity of all knowledge generation processes where a methodological process is developed that allows the testing of hypotheses or the discovery of new knowledge.
  • The Experimentation: as the process of carrying out tests, trials or demonstrations of abstract or tangible concepts or theories.
  • The Technological development: as the activity to develop technological solutions based on research to improve performance, productive, social or technological dynamics.
  • The innovation: as the set of scientific, experimental, financial and commercial steps aimed at the introduction or implementation of a new or significantly improved product (good or service), a process or a new marketing or organizational method.
  • The innovative entrepreneurship: as the process of technology-based entrepreneurship generated from the University (Spin Off).
  • The artistic creation: as the process of knowledge generation from the arts, music, literature, humanism, among other cultural or artistic expressions.
