The Library of the Universidad de la Guajira gives you a warm welcome to the Digital Library, where we provide information from our own and contracted resources for consultation and dissemination.

La Digital Library Uniguajira offers a variety of bibliographic resources contained in books, electronic journals, scientific articles, institutional repository, among others, to support at any time and from anywhere the training process of the university community. You can also find the online catalog of physical books and degree works to be consulted in the Libraries.

Our Ethnic Groups Information Center we are a specialized unit committed to the preservation and dissemination of the linguistic and cultural richness of minority groups, especially indigenous and Afro-descendants.

Our Mission

To satisfy the bibliographic information needs of users, providing opportunities for access, dissemination and transfer of information at all levels, contributing to the generation of new knowledge and research that facilitate academic, scientific, technical and intercultural development.

Our Vision

By the year 2025, the Library of the University of La Guajira will have available and updated bibliographic resources that meet the needs of users according to new trends, open and specialized spaces will be available, self-service strategies will be implemented, expansion of electronic resources, agreements with regional, national and international networks and institutions. To make CIGE the information center with the widest regional coverage.

Objectives
  • Support the student's academic formation, provide timely bibliographic orientation with selected and updated material.
  • Develop and enhance the tools that provide access to the bibliographic resources and services of the Library of the University of La Guajira.
  • Organize spaces, book collection, and equipment of the Library and the CIGE.
  • To facilitate access to bibliographic information for teachers, researchers and scientists in the areas of their interest.
  • To conserve, preserve and disseminate the bibliographic heritage acquired or produced by the University through donations, sales or exchanges.
  • To provide spaces for interculturality through orality and writing.
Collections

The Library of the University of La Guajira and the CIGE, in order to provide the following collections: fulfillment of its functions and objectives has the following collections available to users:

General Collection: Conformed by the books of all areas of knowledge that support the training programs of the University of La Guajira, can be requested for external loan or in room.

Reserve Collection: It is the set of works separated from the General Collection and of restricted circulation that by indication of one or more professors will be subject to constant use during the academic semester.

Reference Collection: Composed of dictionaries, encyclopedias, atlases, manuals, among others, that can guide your research to obtain accurate and fast information.

Hemerographic Collection: Periodical and serial publications such as regional, national and international magazines, journals and newsletters in multiple areas of knowledge oriented to satisfy special study and research programs.

Collection of theses: It consists of monographs and degree projects submitted by undergraduate and graduate students of the University of La Guajira as a requirement for obtaining their degree.

Audiovisual Collection: Works whose format and content are in video cassette, DVD, cds, maps, plans, blueray, among others.

Specialized collection: The CIGE provides information on aboriginal languages and cultures, especially the Wayuu and Afro-Colombian communities; you can find printed material (books, magazines and monographs), photographs, videos, archaeological, handicrafts, among others.

Services

The Library will provide users with the following services:

Loan of bibliographic material: Allows users to check out bibliographic material for use outside the University facilities; the loan of the material is done personally with your ID card and / or identity document and should not have penalties or fines.

Consultation: The use of materials exclusively in the reading rooms of the libraries, the CIGE or within the University campus; the reserve, reference, periodicals and graduate work collections are on internal loan.

Loan of equipment: The Library has a room with computers for consultation of electronic resources.

Interlibrary Loan: University cooperation service for the exchange of information and documentation with other local and national libraries.

Reservation of material: Service to reserve the material that is on loan, you can make the reservation online or in person at the circulation and loan area.

User orientation: Library and CIGE staff will attend to and resolve user requests for general information on collections, services, opening hours and the operation of the library and CIGE.

Reference: Library and CIGE staff members provide pertinent advice in the search for and retrieval of information through bibliographic resources.

Alert Service: This service consists of keeping the user updated through the exhibition of the latest acquisitions and sending the information to the e-mails of the entire university community. Tables are also sent by making the request and indicating the specific topic.

Bibliographic switching: Document exchange service with institutions under agreement. This service handles requests for: articles, book chapters, patents, parts of degree works and theses, minutes and proceedings, which are in other institutions.

Inductions and Training: This service offers the university community the possibility of accessing different workshops that provide the necessary guidance to take advantage of the resources and services of the Library and the CIGE.

OPAC online catalog: Automated online public access catalog that shows the bibliographic resources found in the Library and the CIGE.

Exhibitions: These are exhibits on textiles, musical instruments and utensils made of materials such as ceramics and totumo. They can be permanent, temporary, itinerant or periodic according to their duration or mobility and their individual, collective or documentary content.

Audiovisual projections: Service through which images about ethnic groups are projected at the CIGE, at the request of professors or students.
